Real Wedding: A Portuguese and English Fusion with Pastel Touches
Alice and RuiA combination of Portuguese and English traditions came together beautifully at Alice and Rui's August 2015 wedding day in Surrey.

The couple opted to have a beautiful pastel colour scheme, completed with white and blue touches to include Rui's Portuguese heritage.

Alice wore a lovely lace Catherine Deane wedding dress, accessorised with a stylish selection of fresh flowers, while Rui rocked a suave morning suit.

Despite the heavens opening on their wedding day, the couple had the most magnificent day, including bespoke cocktails and a striking naked cake.

How they met and the proposal
Alice and Rui met in 2005, and on his 22nd birthday, Rui asked Alice out on a date.

Almost ten years later, Rui got down on one knee in Paris and asked Alice to marry him.

"It was supposed to be a surprise but my father gave it away a few days before," reveals Alice.

"We had actually been to Santorini the summer before and I think Alice was convinced I was going to propose then, so I knew she'd suspect a proposal in Paris too," adds Rui.

"Even though I was expecting it, it was still a wonderful surprise," Alice says. "I was on tenterhooks all weekend wondering when he was going to ask. We went to the Pont- de Bir-Hakeim Bridge, which has views of the Eiffel Tower. The clock chimed seven o'clock and the tower lit up with flashing lights and Rui asked me to marry him."

venueThe wedding planners and venue
Alice and Rui hired wedding planners Liesl and Mimi from Zouch and Lamare to make sure their big day went without a hitch.

It was Liesl and Mimi who introduced Alice and Rui to their venue, Millbridge Court in Farnham.

"We sat down with Liesl and Mimi at the start of our planning journey and went through what kind of wedding we wanted," explains Alice. "They came back with a few options and we chose Millbridge Court because it was most intimate and personal."

"Millbridge Court comes as a blank canvas so you can make it what you want," adds Rui. "That was important. The rooms were decorated to reflect us."

Wedding decorations
Using the blank canvas, Alice and Rui styled the wedding with an English country garden theme, with Portuguese influences.

"We used pastel shades for our colour scheme,"
says Alice. "I think pastels reflected the theme.
They were soft, relaxed and beautiful."

The pretty pastel ribbons tied to chairs created a May Day feeling - they remind us of maypoles and summer days in the english countryside.

Portuguese elements
"The idea of our theme was to bring in elements of Rui's homeland, with blue and white stationery," shares Alice. "Our invitations, menus and order of service cards were all done in the same design, mirroring the famous blue and white Portuguese tiles we both love."

"We searched for ages to find stationery that represented the tiles before our wedding planner introduced us to Paperknots, who made us bespoke stationery," she continues.
